Juniors Information

Q: When does the season start?
A: The 2019/2020 season draw will be released in September. The season start date is Saturday 12th October for U11-U17. Woolworths Blast Cricket, both Junior Blasters and Master Blasters also commences the same week but on Friday 11th October.

Q: What happens when it rains?
A: This can vary depending on the amount of rain and location of the game.  Players are required to still travel to the playing ground unless the game has been officially called off.  Team managers and coaches will contact players as soon as they become aware of a game being officially called off.  Rain in one area of the Gold Coast does not mean it has rained in another.  Games that are called off are listed on the Cricket Gold Coast website as soon as the information is available (https://www.cricketgoldcoast.com/wet-weather-information/)

Q: What equipment do I need to play cricket in a team?
A: For Under 11's - Under 17's players are required to have long white pants, groin protector batting gloves and helmet.  A long sleeve playing shirt is provided.  It is important that each child has properly fitted safety equipment.  A basic team kit for all players to use is provided which includes spare gloves, pads and bats.

Q: How much are the match fees?
A: All player fees are included in the registration.  There are no weekly costs.

Q: What does the cricket registration cover?
A: Playing shirt, club hat if you are a new player, training shirt (Under 11's - 17's), player insurance, registration with Cricket Gold Coast, scheduled team coaching with Club Junior Coach, access to club equipment and new match ball for each game.  Depending on the level of cricket, registration also covers the cost of umpires and turf wicket preparation and maintenance.

Q: When do the teams train?
A: Until players are allocated to their teams and coaches have been determined the following is a guide only:
Junior Blasters – Friday afternoons from 4-5pm
Master Blasters & U 11 – Mondays 4-5pm at Salk Oval
U12 & 13 – Tuesdays 4-5 pm at Salk Oval
U 14 – Wednesday 4-5pm at Salk Oval
U 15 & U17 – Thursday 4-5pm at Salk Oval
Additional or changed dates may be decided by coaches.

Q: Does my child have to go to training?
A: Training is not compulsory, however we encourage attendance as your child will benefit in attending for skill development and social connectedness with their team members.

Q: My child hasn’t played before, does this matter?
A: No.  PBC Junior Cricket is about developing skills, teamwork and friendships, taking into account their safety and skill level, children will be given a chance to develop as team members.  Most importantly, we will encourage enjoyment and participation.

Q: My child has a friend at their school that plays cricket at PBC. Can they play on the same team?
A: Wherever possible participants will be placed where they will be happy, providing there is room in the team.  Most of the children playing at PBC go to local schools so there is usually someone your child may know in one of the teams they are allocated to.

Q: Are there mixed boys/girls teams?

A: Girls are welcome to join any junior cricket teams.  Girls are able to play 2 age levels below their current age.  PBC is encouraging girls to contact the club if they are interested in playing cricket– our goal is to field 2 full girls teams!

Q: Where are the games held?
A: It is a home and away competition for Gold Coast cricket clubs.  There are teams from Tweed Heads in the south , Mt Tambourine in the west and Ormeau in the north.  Ground locations can be found on the My Cricket website, (http://mycricket.cricket.com.au/), choose Fixtures and click on the venue listed.  Master Blasters are only required to travel to venues in the Gold Coast South area.

Play for Under 11's - Under 17's is on Saturday from 8am-11:15am.  Players are usually required to be at the ground earlier to warm up and also set up for home games.
